If you’re like most wholesale distributors, your Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is the backbone of your organization. It helps you track inventory, coordinate operations, properly manage your finances, and more. Yet, it may be time for an upgrade. In this blog post, we’ll reveal the five signs that indicate an ERP system upgrade is necessary. Signs It’s Time to Upgrade Your ERP System Include: You’re using an On-Premise ERP system – Though On-Premise isn’t accessed through the internet and can’t be used outside of a physical workspace, it can be used on different mobile and handheld devices. Sure, legacy On-Premise ERP systems serve their purpose for some distribution companies, but you gain more in features, agility, and flexibility when you move your operations to a cloud-based system. It’s been more than a few years since you last upgraded your ERP system. Perhaps you took the leap a few years back and invested in an On-Premise ERP system for example. It likely helped streamline your operations some, but fast forward a few years – is your ERP still serving you as it should? If you answered “no,” then it’s time to reevaluate. Moving to the cloud is ideal because the technology allows for your system to be automatically upgraded to the latest software updates. Technology changes quickly, and your ERP system needs to keep up to remain effective, and for your business to be competitive in the industry. Your business has experienced significant growth over a short period – If your business operations have grown significantly since implementation, even in just a few years, it’s likely not keeping up with the demands of your growing business. An upgrade to a cloud-based ERP system will ensure your distribution operations are transparent, flexible, and scalable to grow with your business. Company expansion is a main reason distribution companies make the move to the cloud! Most of your business is operated remotely – The Covid-19 pandemic was a catalyst for plenty of work-from-home (WFR) job roles which has also sparked a renewed interest in replacing legacy ERP systems. Employees need remote access which also affords multiple employees to seamlessly collaborate with team members in unison. Several disparate programs including a large collection of Excel spreadsheets used outside of the system no longer work in today’s world. It creates inefficiencies and leaves more room for human error. Your chosen ERP system must be sophisticated for remote operation, and that includes being able to generate detailed reports used for analysis and decision-making. Employees have voiced concerns about interface features and functionality – If your employees have voiced concerns about the technology in place, it’s time to take note. You need a solution in place that facilitates the job roles of everyone involved. Whether it’s warehouse staff, sales, or administration just to name a few, take the time to hear your employees when they tell you the current ERP system lacks certain features and functionality required to effectively do their jobs. If you’re already using a cloud-based ERP system, perhaps all the software needs is personalization for each department’s specific use. A modern and personalized user interface will be easier for your employees to use and leads to increased productivity. An ERP Solution is a large investment and moving your business to the cloud is a process, but it’s likely JUST what your organization needs – a central hub, critical to your success, with the current technology to easily share data across your organization with the likelihood of a high adoption rate by employees across various departments. Retailers face a special set of circumstances when it comes to balancing the budget, improving IT, and increasing revenue. The challenges make retailers hesitant to shift over to new technology advancements. It does not help that retailers have some of the smallest budgets in the industry to upgrade systems and implement new technologies in their establishments. That is where cloud-based ERP comes in. What Are Cloud-Based ERP Systems for Retailers? ERP is “Enterprise Resource Planning,” which means it is a system of software management that permits companies, such as retailers, to automate and manage daily operations through a series of integrated applications specific to the business’s needs. When you tag the cloud-based title to it, ERP becomes a cloud computing solution. Cloud computing is the way retailers can save money while integrating the latest technology to manage inventory, handle HR tasks, and to maximize retailer resources. A dedicated IT team, which works remotely, handles data collection and recovery, security and privacy, and technological efficiency without the robust costs usually associated with business IT. How Retailers Benefit from ERP Retailers are in the ideal position to benefit from cloud-based ERP solutions, regardless of their unique needs and limited budgets. In fact, the budget is one of the benefits of ERP. Let us explore the reasons why many retailers deploy cloud-based ERP to build a better business and image. The need for mobile business solutions is increasing every day and enterprise resource planning is no exception. Implementing mobile ERP has far reaching benefits that will impact many facets of your business. The practice of housing a complete ERP system on one computer is long gone, with several new efficiencies being added as part of mobile ERP. Instant Access With mobile ERP, information can be entered at any time, from any location, and is instantly available to all employees, providing managers and employees access to constant, real-time business information. The ability to update on-the-go reduces the chance of incorrect data being entered and allows management to respond to any problems as they arise, rather than hours later. This holds true whether the manager is halfway around the world or just down the hall. Empowered Sales People Nothing inspires customer confidence in a sales person like receiving instant answers to your questions and concerns. Rather than waiting until they are back in the office, your sales force will be able to access all pertinent information and provide immediate responses to clients. Your sales force will also be able to review the latest customer data and recommend new products and solutions based on the customer’s most current needs. Flexibility The increased popularity of BYOD (bring your own devices) and remote access policies for employees means “one size fits all” solutions are no longer viable. Implementing mobile ERP lets these employees stay connected to essential business functions while on the road and assists in a seamless transition once back in the office as their ability to access company information will stay the same regardless of their location. As your employees are already familiar with the devices in question, there is often little to no learning curve in using the mobile ERP. BYOD policies also save on the capital investment of the organization providing devices to all employees. More Info : Types Of ERP Systems

Taking an acquisition beyond its current potential is no easy feat without the right resources in place. In most cases, it’s no surprise that what’s made an acquisition successful to date, will not get said acquisition to the next level, nor will it miraculously reach its true potential without some change. NSA has experts with an enormous amount of experience in protecting companies like yours from the gotcha’s when it comes to mergers and acquisitions. Having led the process on countless occasions, we’ve seen most everything and have the foresight needed to help such acquisitions grow and thrive through the implementation of intelligent, time-tested systems and processes. As Direct-to-consumer (D2C) sales continue to increase, how can wholesale distributors compete with manufacturers wanting to sell directly to their consumers, changing the traditional distribution model? In this blog post, we discuss a few ways they can stay competitive. Commonly referred to as the “middleman” is wholesale distributors who work with both the manufacturer of a product and the retailers or in some cases the end-user consumers. 2022 has seen an increase of manufacturers looking to sell directly to consumers, foregoing the traditional supply chain model and bypassing wholesale distributors altogether. Why? Typically, this is done to decrease costs and increase efficiency, but wholesale distributors bring a great deal of value to this supply chain model. Also labeled “supplier disintermediation,” more manufacturers have turned to digital platforms to circumvent any restrictions in the supply chain to sell direct, having the potential to disrupt the wholesale distribution industry significantly. We outline a few ways for wholesale distributors to prove their worth, with the hopes manufacturers want to continue working with them to deliver the very best products and customer service to the consumer. Ways for Wholesale Distributors to Stay Competitive Include: Showcase Expert Staff – Remind both the manufacturer and retailer that you employ knowledgeable staff who’ll provide prompt, accurate, and often personalized customer service every time. If you’ve been known for exemplary customer service, you have a greater chance of keeping the traditional supply chain model intact because you’ve likely formed lasting business relationships. If your manufacturing partner has chosen to sell direct, remind them of the many benefits of looping your business back into the equation based on this point and the others below. Reduce Costs – Look for ways you can help streamline the operations to reduce costs and improve profit margins for everyone involved. Manufacturers may think selling direct is best and they’ll earn more, but that’s not always the case. Often there are more logistics involved that aren’t considered. eCommerce can be burdensome for manufacturers who are not well-versed in these operations, so excelling in online selling will be an incentive to keep you in the mix. Wholesale distributors have been known to benefit both parties by facilitating deliveries quicker and as cost-effective as possible. Meet a Wider Range of Customer Needs – Simply stand out as the better option and this means finding ways to add value wherever possible. Research to determine what your retail or end-user customers struggle with or which of your competitors lack advertising or other service offering and create opportunities. If you don’t already pre-assemble or package various items, you might consider implementing that service so that you fill a need. MDM states: “M&A activity in the distribution and manufacturing sectors ticked upward in April. The increase in agreements comes on the heels of a relatively slow period for M&A, which followed a rapid rise in activity during the fourth quarter of 2021. Some distributors who reported record sales and profits to start 2022 cited acquisitions from last year as drivers for sustained growth. In time, we’ll see which moves from 1Q and 2Q of this year end up driving profits for companies down the road.” More Info Click Here : Distribution Management | Infor Distribution Software

We understand the distribution industry and have assisted various distribution companies with their technological needs. From the industrial sector to building materials and beyond, NSA has delivered scalable Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions to meet each company’s specific needs. Before we go into the different sectors, let’s review what exactly is “ERP”? Our NSA Senior team describes ERP as “a cross-functional enterprise system driven by an integrated suite of software modules that supports the basic internal business processes of a company.” Here’s a list of the main distribution sectors we serve and how they utilize NSA’s ERP solutions: Automotive Parts – ERP systems can be complex and expensive, but they offer a lot of features and benefits that automotive parts businesses need to be successful. One of the main benefits of an ERP system is that it can help businesses keep track of their inventory levels. This is important for automotive parts businesses because they often have a large number of SKUs and need to be able to know what is in stock at all times. Another benefit of an ERP system is that it can help businesses manage their customer relationships. This is important for automotive parts businesses because they need to be able to track customer orders and ensure that they are satisfied with the products they receive. An April 2022 a report from Modern Distribution Management (MDM) showed that mergers and acquisitions ramped up in Q2 2022. The number of mergers and acquisitions in distribution/manufacturing climbed in April after plateauing during the first three months of the year. The increase in agreements comes on the heels of a relatively slow period for M&A, which followed a rapid rise in activity during the fourth quarter of 2021.
